We frequently get calls during the summer from the general public asking us to remove colonies of bees that have moved into a building.

Unfortunatly, removing them is not easy, as it could mean demolishing a section of the building to gain access.

Beekeepers are normally insured to remove swarms of honeybees, not colonies and cannot put the public or themselves at risk by undertaking swarm collection in dangerous or hazardous environments.

Your building insurance might cover the removal of a honeybee colony from your home. However, you would need to ensure that the person employed is working safely and has experience of "cut outs". This might be an experienced pest control operative or a builder with experience of honeybees.

Ensuring the comb, honey and all the bees are removed from the property is important to ensure no damage is caused by any remaining wax or honey.

These could be Asian Hornets, an invasive species. Please try and take a photo and capture if possible (but DO NOT put yourself at risk as they have a powerful sting). Please contact our hornet liaison officer

These are usually a problem in late summer/early autumn. If left alone they will die out over winter. If they are causing a problem you should contact your local council or other pest control service.

Beekeepers do not deal with Wasps.
